Mini Cheeseburger Pies

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

Suitable from 6+ months with BLW (baby led weaning), perfect for toddlers and the whole family

These mini cheeseburger pies are so delicious you will be batch cooking these on a regular basis! They are also incredibly easy to make with just three ingredients!

When I'm creating a new recipe or snack for my kids I try to make something that will appeal to both of them, Eloise my baby loves meat at the moment and Maxie my 3 year old loves cheese. And lets face it - everyone loves puff pastry and its a BLW staple.

I serve these mini cheeseburger pies with salad, sweet potato fries, and a little ketchup for dunking (the ketchup is only suitable for 12+ months).

I use ready made puff pastry for this recipe as it saves a bit of time which is precious for us busy mums, but feel free to make your own instead. I use a rolling pin to roll out the excess pastry to make sure I'm not wasting any, then I can also make more Mini Cheeseburger Pies for the freezer stash.

Before baking them in the oven, give them a quick egg wash, but you can omit this step if your little one has an egg allergy. Alternatively, substitute the egg wash for a milk wash.

To make the beef patties, scoop out a little minced beef with clean hands and form it into a patty shape. I found that my pancake pan has the perfect size circles for my patties which is a really useful guide for portioning. Here's the link to the pancake pan I acquired through Amazon (Aff).

You can also use alternative minced meat within this recipe, such as chicken or turkey mince. I often substitute my beef mince with a white meat substitute and it's just as delicious!

To serve these mini cheeseburger pies to small babies from 6+ months I would cut them into soldier shapes once cooked, then from 9+ months cut them into quarters to help encourage their pincer grasp.

It's also worth noting that although this recipe is suitable for BLW babies from 6+ months, first tastes should be singular steamed or boiled vegetables such as broccoli, carrots or green beans.

These mini cheeseburger pies are a perfect addition to any party buffet, they are quick to make, toddlers and kids love them, and they're suitable for babies so no-one will miss out!

Reasons I love this recipe:

  • Quick and Easy

  • High in protein

  • Added calcium

  • A great finger food

  • Suitable for batch cooking and freezing

  • Can serve as a snack, or part of a main meal

Makes 6 Mini Cheeseburger Pies

Mini Cheeseburger Pies

Ingredients

A single sheet of ready made puff pastry (approx 320g)

400g beef mince

50g grated cheddar cheese

1 egg

Method

Preheat oven to 200°c (390°f)

Use your hands to form patties with the beef mince

Fry the patties in a little oil until cooked through, they will only need around 3 minutes on each side

Roll out the sheet of puff pastry and use a large glass to cut out circles, I created 6 then used a rolling pin to roll out the excess pastry and made another 6

Place half of the pastry circles onto a lined baking tray and place the beef patties on top along with a little cheddar cheese

Add the other pastry circles on top and press the edges down with your fingers, before going over and sealing them with the back of a fork around the edges

Whisk the egg and give the tops all a quick egg wash with a brush, then bake in the oven for 18 minutes

Store in the fridge for up to three days, or place in a freezer to consume within 3 months
